Live in Ohio? You Have a 1.13% Chance of Being Abducted by Aliens

Whether you're begging for aliens to finally pay you a visit and take you with them or you're petrified at the thought of being abducted, you now have some odds to consider. A recent report analyzed more than 4,000 abduction reports in Ohio ranging from 2019 to 2024, which means that Ohioans have about a one in 89 chance of reporting an alien abduction (this boils down to one alien abduction for every 11,300 residents; Ohio has about 12 million people total).  Those figures put Ohio right in the middle of the pack in terms of states with the most...

Sirna’s Café, Serving Up Bedford Since 1953

A Bedford Staple Rooted in History If you have been around the greater Cleveland area for any length of time, specifically the Bedford area, you have probably heard or seen the Sirna name at least a few times. If you are a Bedford native, or you frequent Bedford for any reason, it is also quite probable that you have been to Sirna’s Café at 795 Broadway for what can only be described as the best comfort food money can buy. Jim Thome's Quiet Greatness

Back in 2014, I was a freelancer writing for a variety of publications. That spring, I was in Arizona to cover spring training mainly for the Associated Press, but I was pitching other story ideas around and Sports on Earth (RIP) agreed to pick up an interview I had with Jim Thome.  Thome's playing career ended after the 2012 season (it will never not be weird seeing him in a Baltimore Orioles uniform), and it felt then — and still does now to some extent — that the baseball world simply did not appreciate what he accomplished on the field....

The Cleveland Browns, the AFC Championship, and an Alternate Universe

As I watch the snow falling down in buckets, and the estimated snow totals continuing to rise to as high as 13 inches throughout Northeast Ohio, I find myself daydreaming of an alternate universe. No, not of a universe without snow. It's integral here. It's Sunday as well in this alternate universe, and it's the morning of the AFC Championship Game. In this universe — because there are infinite universes, I'm 99 percent sure this is possible in at least one of them — the Cleveland Browns are not only playing in the game, but they are hosting it. That's...

Cleveland Finally Has Its Superman Statue

After years of planning, lobbying, and fundraising, downtown Cleveland finally has its permanent Superman statue. Led by a private fundraising effort from the Siegel & Shuster Society, the statue - part of a larger Superman Plaza - cost $2.2 million and was unveiled in August 2025. It features a 9.5-foot Superman in flight, soaring above onlookers while mounted atop an 18-foot blue pylon.  In addition to the stainless steel Man of Steel, there are life-size bronze statues of Jerry Siegel and Joel Shuster, along with Joanne Siegel, who served as the real-life inspiration for Lois Lane. Jerry and Joanne are...
