UFO Floating Over Cleveland

Whether you're begging for aliens to finally pay you a visit and take you with them or you're petrified at the thought of being abducted, you now have some odds to consider.

A recent report analyzed more than 4,000 abduction reports in Ohio ranging from 2019 to 2024, which means that Ohioans have about a one in 89 chance of reporting an alien abduction (this boils down to one alien abduction for every 11,300 residents; Ohio has about 12 million people total).

Those figures put Ohio right in the middle of the pack in terms of states with the most alien abduction reports, at 21. The top five states for alien abduction odds are:

  • New Hampshire (24 UFO reports per 100,000 people)
  • Idaho (23.3 UFO reports per 100,000 people)
  • Vermont (23.3 UFO reports per 100,000 people)
  • Maine (21.5 UFO reports per 100,000 people)
  • Oregon (20 UFO reports per 100,000 people)
  • The rest of the top ten includes Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, and Connecticut.

Last year, Stacker published a breakdown that compiled Ohio cities with the most UFO sightings dating back to 1995. As you might imagine, the major metropolitan areas top the list — and Cleveland is up there — but here's the full top ten:

  • Garrettsville: 44 UFO sightings
  • Cambridge: 45 sightings
  • Youngstown: 48 sightings
  • Canton: 55 sightings
  • Akron: 68 sightings
  • Dayton: 98 sightings (makes sense considering they house all those extraterrestrials over at Wright-Patterson AFB)
  • Toledo: 104 sightings
  • Cleveland: 122 sightings
  • Cincinnati: 168 sightings
  • Columbus: 280 sightings

Though Columbus leads in total sightings, you might want to stick with Cleveland or Cincinnati if you're looking to not only see a UFO but get abducted as well. With a population hovering around 365,000 in Cleveland, your odds of a sighting are 0.033%, whereas your odds in Cincinnati are 0.05% and 0.030% in Columbus.

Go outside the top three cities and your odds get even better. Toledo's odds for a UFO sighting sit at 0.039%, whereas Dayton is at 0.07%. But where you really want to be is Garrettsville, where you have a 1.76% chance of seeing a UFO.
